Dave Matthews Band sax player LeRoi Moore was injured Monday in an ATV accident on his farm outside Charlottesville, Va. LeRoi was immediately transported to the University of Virginia Health System for treatment.
According to the band’s Web site, www.dmband.com, Moore’s condition has been upgraded from serious to fair.
“We would like to thank everyone for the generous outpouring of well wishes and support that LeRoi has received,” the Web site said.
To send an email/ecard directly to Moore at the UVA hospital, visit www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/internet/e-cards/. Mail may also be sent to him at the following address: Post Office Box 1467, Charlottesville, VA 22902 or to fanmail@davematthewsband.com.
Beginning Tuesday in Charlotte, N.C., Béla Fleck and the Flecktones saxophonist, Jeff Coffin, will be sitting in with Dave Matthews Band while LeRoi recovers.
On Tuesday, the road crew for the Dave Matthews Band posted this statement in the “Road” section of the Dave Matthews Band Web site:
“After his first full day of recovery, we’re learning that his condition is improving. Dave and Carter spent a few hours at his side this morning, laughing together and talking. He’s alert and cracking jokes already. They commented on how much they were heartened and excited after leaving the hospital, knowing that he’s going to be alright. Dave announced to the audience tonight ‘He was beat up real good, but he’s going to be fine.’”
Moore plays bass, baritone, tenor, alto, and soprano saxophones, as well as the flute, bass clarinet and wooden penny whistle.
The Dave Matthews Band will play two shows at Verizon Wireless Music Center, 12880 E. 146th St. in Noblesville, on July 25 and 26. There is no word yet whether Moore will return to the band before those shows.

Leroi Moore may be out for quite a while.
Multiple sources have told Dave Matthews Band fan Web site, http://www.antsmarching.org , that Moore suffered a punctured lung and broken ribs. The June 30 accident landed the saxophonist in the hospital, where he remains as of July 2.
Speculation among those familiar with his situation believe that he could be out longer than we anticipate. For “up to a year”, according to one source. Most agree that he will not return for this tour.
How this will effect the potential album, and future sessions, is unknown.
